Waiting, what is it good for, absolutely nothing. Say it again. Haha.
Everybody is waiting for something. They’re waiting for more money, they’re waiting for the time to do something, they’re waiting on information, they’re waiting until they have learned more.
Everybody is waiting for something and as long as they’re waiting nothing will happen. To me waiting is just like worrying. It does nothing but pushes things into the future.
My neighbor down the road burnt his house down, by accident of course. So I was talking to him while the fire department was dousing the ashes of what used to be his house and I asked him what happened. He said he was burning leaves and it got away from him. I asked him why didn’t you call the fire department when it got out of hand? Incredibly he said, ” well I was waiting to see if it was going to go towards the house”. Of course, now we know that it went towards the house.
Just like a lot of want to be entrepreneurs they are always waiting. What are they waiting for? A good portion tell me they are waiting until they know everything. Really?
The sad part is, I use to be just like that. I would not move forward with anything or any plan until I thought I knew everything involved. The problem was I never moved forward. I was stuck waiting.
So back a couple of years ago I was talking with a person who was just killing it in internet marketing. I had been talking with him for about 30 minutes telling him all my hopes and dreams. I laid out for him my plan on how I was going to become just like him. He asked me what part of my plan I had accomplished. I said, well nothing so far. He laughed and looked me straight in the eyes and said what are you waiting for? I was a little a taken back by this, so I said I was waiting until I thought I had everything in place.
He laughed again and told me I was never going to do anything. He said if he had waited he would still be working a nine to five job and hating it. He told me that he was like that at first. He said he had been waiting all his life for the “right opportunity” to come along. One day a co-worker of his quit his job and started his own cleaning business. He told me he was amazed that he had quit such a good job to step out on his own.
He said he asked him why that particular business and he said I have been wanting to do this for some time. So he asked him what did he know about it. He said very little but he could learn as he went, he was tired of waiting and decided to JUMP.
That was the very day he decided to stop waiting.
After that conversation, I finally understood the hindrance of waiting. Waiting was keeping me from doing what I truly wanted to do and that was teaching. So I JUMPED. Best decision I ever made.
There is a saying in this industry and it goes like this, ” good enough is good enough”.
You will never get anywhere waiting. Stop waiting to be good enough. Stop thinking you have to know everything. You don’t. Once you start you will figure it out. I promise you. If you don’t then just back up and start again.
These days I do not wait to do what I want. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t just jump in come hell or high water. I have an idea of what I want to do I just no longer wait to know everything. I learn on the fly.
That was the best advice I have ever gotten and I practice that. I do whatever it is and I learn as I go.
Stop waiting for things to happen! Make stuff happen!
